A 72-YEAR-OLD Cirencester man is charged with having sex with an underage girl.
Paul Hurrell of The Leonards, South Cerney, appeared before His Honour Judge Paul Cook at Gloucester Crown Court yesterday (Friday).
He faces five charges of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged from 13 to 15 years old.
The alleged offences involved the same girl and were said to have taken place in 2010, the judge heard. Two charges related to dates in January of that year and three charges related to dates between April 5 and December 12.
No arraignment took place yesterday because there were ongoing discussions between the Crown and the defence about the possibility of there being acceptable pleas to some charges.
Judge Cook adjourned the case until July 1 and granted the pensioner unconditional bail.
