Gloucestershire’s best golfers have returned to their home county after an impressive performance at South West Week, which took place at Parkstone Golf Club in Dorset.

The event, which began on Sunday 9th June 2019, saw 11 of the county’s best golfers take part in six days of competition golf across the challenging course.

South West Week is a highlight in the regional golfing calendar that brings the very best players from the six participating counties (Gloucestershire, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire) on to one course, over one week.

The Gloucestershire Men's First Team won four out of the five matches to win the Match Play title for the first time since 2016 and achieved a record breaking 45 points out of the 70 available.

Team captain, Gary Ward, said, “Parkstone undoubtedly lived up to its billing of 'No Better Place’ and provided an inspiring environment for players and spectators alike. The team played to the highest standard all week and while we were unable to win the Stroke Play championship, we are all extremely proud to have walked away with the Match Play Title. Every player made an incredible contribution to the team cause, both on and off the course”

County player Joe Harvey, from The Kendleshire Golf Club in Bristol, achieved a record of seven wins and a half from his ten games, matching the best individual performance of the week alongside David Norton (Dorset) and James Reed (Devon).

Joe said, “It was a great week of golf, on a challenging course with impressive competition. Playing for the County’s first team is a great honour and allows me to continuously develop my game. The event was extremely well run and the support we had from our captain, team mates and the whole Gloucestershire team was second to none.”
