A GROUP of friends from Berkeley will be cycling through three countries in one day to raise money for two charities.

Craig Barnett is among nine cyclists who will ride all the way home from Gretna Green, Scotland.

They will set off on Friday, continuing through the night into Wales until they reach the 300-mile mark back at Berkeley.

Money is being raised for Children with Cancer and The James Hopkins Trust, a charity caring severely disabled children.

The ride, named Hills of Hope 300, could be made more challenging by the heatwave forecast later in the week.

Team manager Craig said: “This challenge will test us all, but the one thing we will not do is give up.

"We are all riding for a reason, and one thing we want to do is make a difference to as many children’s lives as we can.

"Our aim is to try and raise not just money, but also awareness to help both children with cancer and children with life limiting conditions, we want to fight for them, and what better way to do this than to ride 300 miles in 24 hours.”

“The team and I would like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors who have helped us with nutrition, clothing, drinks, donations and marketing. Without them we would not be as prepared as we currently are.”

Craig took part in a 250-mile charity ride last year following the death of his brother, Heath, from cancer.

The riders will wear shirts that say: "Riding in memory of Heath Barnett."

These also carry the name of Craig's employer, Gloucester construction company E G Carter & Co, who have again provided sponsorship.

If you would like to support the team on their final stint they will be arriving into Berkeley on Saturday afternoon.
