A cyclist was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after being hit by a car in Chipping Sodbury yesterday.

Wickwar Road was closed between the Waitrose roundabout and the roundabout for St John’s Way, but reopened at 8.45pm last night.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 13:28 to reports of a road traffic collision, reportedly involving a cyclist and a car.

"We attended with an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an operations officer.

"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the cyclist had suffered head, hip and rib injuries.
