I read with interest the article "
".
Simon Pickering, chair of SDC's Environment Committee said: "One of Stroud District Council's main priorities is to help the community minimise its carbon footprint, adapt to climate change and recycle more."
I agree fully with his statement, but the nearest recycling facilities (Tips) for Alkington, Ham and Stone Parishioners to dispose of their household waste is Pyke Quarry, Nr Horsley, Stroud. GL6 0QA (just over 12 miles away) and Hempsted, Hempsted Lane, Hempsted, Gloucester. GL6 0QA (over 18 miles away). Both of these are closed for one day during the week (Wednesday and Thursday respectively).
At one time we were allowed to go to a similar facility at Thornbury which is only six miles away and open all week including weekends.
For the above parishioners having to go all the way to Horsley or Hempsted does not help to reduce Stroud District Council's carbon footprint at all so how can it be one of the Council's main priorities?
