Yate Town Council have unveiled a new interpretation board in the area.

The board is situated right next to the tree sculpture in the Ridge and feautres information about the felled Wellingtonia tree that previously stood in its place.

Yate based chainsaw artist, Andy O’Neill previously carved the sculpture and also created a lectern-style base made out of the Wellingtonia wood, on which the interpretation board is attached.

The board contains information relating to the history and origins of the Wellingtonia trees.

A spokesperson for the council thanked South Glos Councillor Ruth Davis for helping to fund the interpretation board.

Councillor Davis said: “I am delighted that we were able to follow through and fund the suggestions of local residents. I’ve heard that people are visiting Yate just to see this fantastic carving.”

Andy O’Neill and his father Bob, the author of the poem featured on the interpretation board, joined Yate Town Councillors and children and staff from Broadway Primary School to unveil the interpretation board.
