Bill and Sue Broad, landlords of The Nelson Inn have announced the immediate closure of the pub on Gloucester Street.

The couple have ran the pub for the last 27 years after taking over in 1992.

In a joint statement the couple said: "The Nelson Inn is now closed!

"We have had confirmation that the contracts have now been exchanged and therefore we will cease trading with immediate effect.

"We would like to say a big thank you to all customers, loyal friends and acquaintances from near and far for your support over the last 27 years.

"We've had the most amazing time and owe it all to our lovely customers.

"Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on the other side of the bar!"

The Grade II listed building that has been located on Gloucester Street for more than 100 years.

In September last year, it was revealed that a planning application had been submitted to change the site into six houses.

Under the plans, the building will not be demolished for the houses, but will have work done to alter the building if plans are permitted.

Works proposed in the application include both the interior and exterior of the building, and will include refurbishment works.

Of the six houses that are included in the plans, two of them will be one bedroom, three houses will be two bedroom, and one house will be a four bedroom house.
