A MUM whose son’s Thornbury home was trashed by a gang of 15 has told the Gazette he’s still ‘living in fear’ and can’t return to the flat.

In late April, Dion Kear, 26, returned home from a trip away with his family to find that his ground floor flat in Usk Court had been smashed to pieces by a group of 15 vandals.

Dion, was informed by Bromford, the housing association which manages the flat, that he would be taken to court unless he cleared the damaged property.

Now, nearly three months on, Dion’s mum Marie Hudd has claimed that there is a ‘clear campaign’ against her son despite Bromford saying they are willing to help Mr Kear.

“We have done everything we can to try and compromise with Bromford,” Marie said.

“Dion doesn’t feel safe and we were told by the police that we need to get him moved.”

Marie claims that she has told Bromford that if they clear the flat she can come to an arrangement over payment.

“Dion has been living on the sofa in my one-bed apartment ever since – he suffers from anxiety so he can’t go back there,” she continued.

“I have tried to compromise with them and have told them that we are unable to clear the flat.

“If they were to try and put someone else in the flat they would have to clear it.

Bromford’s head of locality Natalie Robertson said: “Over the past couple of months, we have been working hard to resolve this situation with Mr Kear.

“We have listened to the concerns raised and agreed that Mr Kear could move to one of our other homes and also arranged for him to have priority on the council’s housing lettings system, in case he would prefer to move into a home run by another housing association.

“However, we have been clear that this can only happen when Mr Kear has cleared the property, which is a one of the conditions of his tenancy and he is currently yet to do.”
