A MUM from Chipping Sodbury says she has been treated ‘horrifically’ by a developer which she claims has failed to fix problems with her new-build home.

Emma Graham has complained about the ‘incredibly poor’ quality of some of the work at the Bloor estate on which she lives – and other residents have voiced their concerns.

Emma, 48, moved into her £330,000 house in Weavers Way in the Barnhill development in Sodbury around three years ago, and says she has encountered a number of problems since then.

But the single mum, who has three daughters and has been a police officer in Bristol for nearly 30 years, says she has chosen to speak out about Bloor now because cracks have appeared in the walls of her garden and the company has refused to fix them.

She said she feels she has been ‘let down’ by the developer.

“When we made the decision to move here it was because we didn’t want to worry,” said Emma.

“The development is lovely and my children go to school locally so it works really well.

“But some of the workmanship on the site is incredibly poor.”

The Gazette reported earlier this year that large pieces of cladding were falling off some of the homes on the development.

While residents have also complained that the company responsible for maintenance on the estate is failing to carry out jobs, such as cutting grass, to a decent standard.

Now though, numerous walls on the housing estate are cracking and appear to be at risk of falling down.

“The whole ethos from Bloor is horrific,” Emma continued.

“My neighbour pointed out that my garden wall was cracking over a year ago, he complained to Bloor about the issue so I didn’t worry.

“As a single parent working a full-time job, I didn’t have the time to chase it up so I was so grateful because it meant that it was one less thing on my list.

“His wall has since been fixed, but when I contacted them about mine they told me I was outside of the two year warranty period.

“They sold themselves as a family business and they are not taking responsibility for the problems that they have created.

“We were looking at some older houses but we chose the new-build because we trusted Bloor and we didn’t think we would have to deal with any of these issues.

“I just feel like they never cared about the families – all they are worried about is the money.”

The Gazette approached Bloor to offer the housing developer a chance to respond to Emma Graham’s complaints but the company did not respond before we went to print.

In a statement, Bloor Homes said: "Bloor Homes was made aware of the issues of a selected number of walls at the Barnhill Gate development.

"We instructed our contractors to carry out remedial works which have now been completed. We are aware of further reports of faults, the properties concerned are not in our ownership and we have recommended a suitable course of action for the affected residents to take with Bromford Housing Association."
