A number of students achieved high grades as Brimsham Green School broke some of their own records on A-Level results day.

30% of pupils at the school received at least one A*/A and over 83% of students that completed an Extended Project Qualification received an A*/A as well.

Ms Kim Garland, headteacher at the school was delighted with the progress of the students.

"Cotswold Edge's Year 13 students have worked with real determination to achieve over and above their target grades and as a result have made excellent progress," she said.

"Higher numbers than ever are looking forward to starting challenging university courses."

There were a number of amazing stories to come out from the results day but two particularly stood out.

Beth Carriaga, a student that achieved A*, A*, A, A, C will be making her way across the pond to study in the USA.

She will be taking her place after earning a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for Brown University in Rhode Island.

Whilst admitting that she didn't know a lot of about the state, she told the Gazette she was really excited to be taking the opportunity.

"I am really excited to be going to America," she said.

"I would tell all Year 12's to look at the scheme and America because the system is completely different.

"I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do and the way that it works in America means that I can decide that later.

"My parents are really scared but they are proud as well.

"The scholarship is going to be good and I would tell anybody to look at it because it is for people that are from low-income families."

Ms Kim Garland said of Beth: "We are so proud and we know that she is going to do so well in the USA."

Another name to remember might be Ella Bryant.

The Brimsham student received A*, A*, B, B and takes her place on a foundation course at the incredibly prestigious Oxford School of Drama.

"It is one of the top 5 in the world for drama," she explained

"I am really excited, I really didn't think that I would be going to do that but I am looking forward to it.

"I couldn't have done it without the school. My experience here has been absolutely insane I have loved it all.

The aspiring star, who also forms part of Northavon Youth Theatre Company in Thornbury, told the Gazette that the dream is one day to make it to the West End.

Tom Groves another student thanked staff at the school for all their support on his way to A*, A, A, B.

He achieved his grades in Art, Chemistry and Maths. He is going to study Architecture in Sheffield.

"I chose the subject first and the more I looked in to Architecture the more I liked it," he said.

"I am absolutely buzzing and really excited to be going to Sheffield.

"It wouldn't have been possible without the support of staff."
