THE grand Hawkesbury Horticultural Show is back for its 134th year this weekend with a packed programme sure to bring in the crowds.

Held at the village hall and recreation ground in Hawkesbury Upton, the traditional country show has everything for a family day out, with craft and food stalls, tea and cakes, beer and Pimms tents and fairground rides.

The show opens at 12:30pm and the carnival procession of floats and walking costume parade, will be led by Nailsworth Silver Band through the village to the Showground from 1:30pm.

A road closure is in place on the High Street from 1pm-2pm.

This year’s show, features a range of entertainment, from Welsh farmer Meirion and his sheepdogs, to Meirion Owen and his Quack Pack who will be performing in the arena.

Allotment guru Terry Walton from Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show will be making a guest appearance on the day. Terry will be crowning the Carnival Queen and presenting several prizes, as well as providing allotment tips and advice.

There will also be a tractor pull competition, a grand raffle with an array of prizes, live music, food, drinks and more.

Rounding off the day, the traditional auction of produce, presided over by Nick Cragg from Country Properties, will give show-goers the chance to purchase many of the fantastic exhibits.

The show committee is continuing its mission to reduce plastic waste on the day, with a recycling station at the show, making a tap available at the Village Hall for visitors to refill their own bottles and receptacles and encouraging visitors to reuse last year’s pint and half pint beakers.

No throwaway plastic glasses will be supplied on the day.
