A NUMBER of primary schools in South Gloucestershire will receive funding from the council to make improvements to their buildings.

South Gloucestershire Council announced that it had invested over £2 million this year in maintenance for schools in the area this year already.

This maintenance work includes new roofing, heating and water services, replacement electrical work, new windows and more improvements.

Cabinet Member for Schools, Skills and Employment Cllr Erica Williams said: “Improving educational standards in South Gloucestershire is our top priority.

"We want to make sure that our pupils have the best school facilities available that we are able to provide.

"These considerable improvements that are taking place at a number of primary schools across our area will help ensure that we are adequately prepared for the future.”

South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet has approved a record £78 million investment into schools over the next four years.

This includes funding the creation of new schools as well as capital improvements to a number of existing school buildings.

A full list of the maintenance work to be carried out before the end of the calendar year includes work at: Frampton Cotterell Primary School, Samuel Whites Infant School, Hawkesbury Primary School, Cadbury Heath Primary School, St John's Mead Primary School, Olveston Primary School, Crossways Junior School, Crossways Infant School and also Oldbury-on-Severn Primary School.

£945,000 Complete electrical re-wire, replacement of suspended ceiling, heating, hot and cold water services pipework

£200,000 Curtain walling (non-structural, outer covering of a building)

Cadbury Heath Primary School

£135,000 Replacing boiler plant and heating controls

St John's Mead Primary School

£130,000 Replacing boiler plant in main building

£50,000 Replacing low level windows

Olveston Primary School

£116,000 Rewire part of the ‘old school’ building and replacing heating in KS1 area

Crossways Junior School

£103,000 Replacing hot and cold water services

Crossways Infant School

£96,000 Replacing hot and cold water services
