Three boys who were seen trying to steal tools from allotments in Thornbury have handed themselves in to the police.

The boys were seen trying to steal various tools from sheds around the plots at Daggs allotments on August 26.

They were spotted by a member of the public who was walking near the allotments and when they moved to confront them the group ran away, dropping what they had in their hands.

Thornbury beat manager PC Paula Manos confirmed three boys aged 11 and 12 had admitted their part in the incident.

They were making a den and needed some tools to help them build it, so opened a shed and were spotted taking some tools.

A fourth boy, a brother of one of those involved, was also at the scene but only ran to the allotments because his brother had his bag.

Following a post on the Spotted in Thornbury Facebook page one of the boys admitted his part in the incident to his mother. She then called the police with the names of those involved.

PC Manos said: "The allotment holders have been all contacted and at this time no-one has found or reported anything missing or damaged.

"The boys will be doing some community work with the allotment holders as their way of saying sorry."
