In "Time for action" (letters Sept 12) reference is made to an "unelected PM".

Unlike the USA where Presidential elections are held, here in the UK votes are cast for our local MP.

Positions of PM and cabinet ministers are chosen from within the party in government.

The letter also refers to Parliamentary democracy.

Each MP elected is not voted into Parliament to represent their own personal convictions but to follow the manifesto principles as stated at the time of the election for which their constituents gave their vote.

Democracy has failed if the majority vote of the people is ignored.

As a Remainer I did act, casting my vote for this in the 2016 Referendum, but accept that the majority was with fellow citizens who chose to vote to leave.

In Parliament there was a cross party majority to hold the Referendum in the first place and also to implement the outcome of this vote by triggering Article 50.

That is democracy.
