Long-serving Malmesbury League of Friends trustee Margaret Toogood has retired after over 30 years with the local charity.

Mrs Toogood, who, with her husband Jim has lived in Malmesbury for nearly 60 years, first served as a trustee when the town had its own hospital and was known as the Malmesbury Hospital League of Friends, whose main function was to raise funds to purchase equipment for the hospital not available under the NHS.

In 2008, under the chairmanship of Robin Clark, the hospital closed, the Primary Care Centre opened and the name changed to Malmesbury Hospital League of Friends.

While it continues to purchase medical equipment for the Malmesbury Primary Care Centre, its remit has widened to include support for local charities and individuals in need.

Current chairman David Hide said: “ Margaret has served loyally as a trustee for MLOF for many years.

"Her advice and experience has been invaluable to me and all the trustees.

"She will be much missed, but we wish her many years of good health.”
