As we all know, the Liberal Democrats now have two Jo’s’ as leaders of the party; Jo Swinson leading the national party and Joe Harris leading the Cotswold District Council.
Like many of your readers I was shocked by Jo Swindon’s announcement at the Lib Dem conference that they will scrap Brexit and cancel article 50 if they win the next general election despite campaigning for another referendum at the recent European elections.
I wonder how this sits with the Lib Dem party’s much used campaign line of ‘we deserve better!’
Becoming the Anti Brexit party almost overnight ignores the wishes of 17.4m people who voted to leave and the 48 percent of those who voted this way in the Cotswolds.
It is opportunistic, extremist and above all undemocratic.
Most importantly it fills me dread that the Cotswolds is now run by Liberal Democrats who were elected on a manifesto that stated their policies were ‘reasonable and pragmatic and that they wished to be accountable and transparent.’
Four months into their new administration all we have had are broken promises and this is yet another one!
