A THORNBURY woman is celebrating the one year anniversary of her floristry business.

Harriet Gill started up The Flower Shed last August.

What makes the business somewhat different is that it is run from an outbuilding at her family’s farm.

Growing up on Morton Farm, Harriet found her love of floristry through Young Farmers and regularly represented her club in floral art competitions.

Qualifying at county level most years, she reached the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Club’s national finals many times.

“I have always loved growing up on a farm and being outdoors,” said Harriet.

“Many of my floral creations are inspired by the countryside as this is where my love of floristry began.”

Harriet has now taken floristry from a passion to a career.

After working in a florists shop for a couple of years she studied at Bridgwater and Taunton College and now has a City & Guilds full Diploma in Floristry.

Harriet says setting up her own business has always been a goal of hers.

She now makes a range of floral creations including bouquets, arrangements, funeral tributes and wedding designs.

Harriet also attends local fairs with her Flower Shed stall.

“I also run workshops from the farmhouse and sell small bunches of flowers in our own small farm shop,” she added.
