The Leader of South Gloucestershire Council is backing calls for a general election.

Cllr Toby Savage regularly writes a column for readers in the Gazette, in the latest edition he threw his support behind PM Boris Johnson.

"There are so many issues and challenges facing local government at present, whether it is managing funding, adapting to changing policy or making sure communities and residents are being heard," he said.

"This is why we as a nation need a general election.

"Without a General Election and clarity moving forward, there will be no progress on policy for the likes of social care for adults and children. There will be nothing to overcome financial challenges.

"So, on behalf of local authorities across the country, I would urge Westminster to do the right thing for the nation."
