A MUSIC festival that takes place annually in South Gloucestershire has been shortlisted as a finalist at the National Outdoor Events Awards 2019.

Yate Rocks that takes place in Kingsgate Park every summer is organised by Yate Town Council, with the help of volunteers, and gives local bands an opportunity to play in front of large crowds.

It is estimated that thousands of people attend the event yearly.

Yate Town Council posted on Facebook: "The council is over the moon to hear that our very own festival, Yate Rocks!, has been shortlisted as a finalist at the National Outdoor Events Awards 2019.

"The two day event that takes place in Kingsgate Park in June each year is a community event run by Yate Town Council with the help of The Friends of Kingsgate Park and Re-energise Event Management.

"The event showcases local talent including bands, dance groups, musicians and choirs as well as offering a host of attractions and refreshments to keep the huge crowds entertained.

"Yate Rocks! is now approaching its 14th year and just keeps getting bigger and better."

The winner of the award for Best Small Outdoor Event will be announced at an awards ceremony on 27th November 2019 with the festival up against: Whirligig Festival in Weston-Super-Mare, The Lord Mayors Hot Air Balloon Regatta (City of London) and Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza."
