A HUGE number of people from the Dursley community came together as a restaurant celebrated 30 years of service.
The Dil Raj opened in the town in September 1989, and has been a popular part of the community ever since.
Bosses at the restaurant in Long Street decided to host a special 30th anniversary party for some of its loyal customers.
On September 23, over 100 customers attended the celebration event.
A marquee had been placed in the car park of the restaurant especially for the evening.
Owner, Abdul Rakib, organised the event as a thank you to his customers, many of whom have been frequenting the restaurant since it opened.
There were a number of people at the event, including the Mayor of Dursley Neil Grecian.
Cllr Grecian presented presented Rakib with a mayoral certificate in recognition of the valued support the restaurant has given to so many organisations in Dursley over the years.
This includes their contributions to Dursley Football Club, Cam Cricket Club and Dursley Rugby Club, Dursley Operatic and Dramatic Society and Rednock School India Friendship Group.
Guests were treated to a traditional Indian buffet and entertainment from Desi Nach Dancers.
South Wales comedian Lenny Dee performed as well as guitarist and singer Lar Hughes.
Rakib thanked the community for their warmth over three decades. He said: “30 years ago members of this special community welcomed me and my staff and have supported us ever since. I am truly grateful and wanted to create a special celebration to say thank you to you all.”
