AN animal lover from Yate is holding an event to raise awareness about cruelty, after her pet cat was shot at three times with an air rifle.

Liz Jenkins’ cat Grace was shot for the third time in June and similar incidents have taken place in recent months all over South Gloucestershire.

“I knew that something was wrong immediately because she was very anxious,” Liz explained.

“I took her to the vet and they confirmed that Grace had been shot with a pellet from an air rifle.”

Grace was fortunate to not be killed after the pellet hit near her spine.

Liz said that she was considering moving away from the area in order to prevent Grace from being shot yet again by whoever has a vendetta against the pet cat, but she is now looking to organise an awareness event that will raise money for charity.

Liz has organised a fundraising event in Chipping Sodbury in aid of Bristol charity Street Vets.

Soul band Kokomo will perform at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall as part of the event on November 22.

“I hope that by running an event that raises awareness of the issue it might make whoever is doing this think twice about shooting in the future,” Liz said.

“The aim is that this will help start Grace’s Living Legacy, so we can try and protect animals.

“I think it is important to try and make a positive out of a negative.

“I just don’t understand the sort of person that would try to harm an animal. I seriously think about moving because if anything were to happen and one of my cats was killed, I couldn’t forgive myself.”
