PUPILS at a primary school in Thornbury have created a mosaic to highlight the problem of plastic pollution.

Manorbrook pupils gathered hundreds of plastic bottle tops to create the artwork.

The project stemmed from the school’s Eco Schools committee and was designed to raise awareness of plastic pollution and to promote recycling.

Earlier this year the school began collecting plastic bottle tops of all shapes, sizes and colours in preparation of the artwork.

Once they were all sorted into colours the project began.

Every child from the school was invited to place at least one bottle top on the display to ensure that it was a whole school collaboration.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Raising awareness of plastic pollution and the damage it does to our environment is very important and getting young pupils involved using art is an effective way to engage and get people thinking.

A spokesperson for the Eco Schools committee said: “We hope this project will encourage people to recycle more and maybe change some habits.”
