A CONVICTED rapist has admitted carrying out a campaign of street muggings while he was living in Dursley last year.

Peter Timmins robbed five men and one woman of cash or mobile phones during a six week crime spree in Dursley in March and April 2018.

He went on to rape and rob a female sex worker in Manchester in October of last year and is now serving a 16 year, three months sentence for those offences.

Timmins, aged 29, of Padworth Walk, Wythenshawe, admitted five counts of robbery and one of attempted robbery when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court by video link from Bristol Prison.

He pleaded guilty to robbing a man of a Samsung Galaxy, £10 and some clothes on March 16, 2018 in Dursley.

He also admitted four further robberies and one attempted robbery, all in Dursley and all on April 21, 2018.

Judge David Evans adjourned the case so Timmins could be sentenced by the same judge, Mr Justice Field, who dealt with the rape case at Manchester Crown Court in July.

Judge Evans said a new assessment was needed as to whether Timmins should be classified as a dangerous offender in the light of the six new offences that he has now admitted.

He said:"It is best for this case to go back to Manchester where the judge knows all about the defendant and can decide what he would have done in July if he had also been dealing with this case.

"If I were to sentence it today, there is a significant chance that I will find him to be a dangerous offender, and that would have serious consequences for him."

He told Timmins:"It is much better you are sentenced by the same judge who sentenced you in July. I cannot give you any promises or indications, but it is obvious you are looking at additional prison time."

Mr Tim Storrie, defending, said:"These were offences committed at a time in his life when he was greatly stressed by circumstances. He has issues in respect of his cognitive capacity."

Mr Greg Gordon, prosecuting, said the victims of the Dursley robberies have made victim impact statements which will be available at the sentencing hearing.
