Cotswold District Council has launched a public consultation as part of a formal polling station/district review.

Residents, councillors and parish/town councils are being asked to give their views on the current arrangements for polling stations and polling districts, and on some possible changes.

Changes proposed include investigating potential alternative polling stations and assessing options to combine local polling stations in certain areas.

The consultation deadline is Friday, December 6.

All submissions received will be reviewed and considered before final recommendations are submitted to the council on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

If agreed, any amendments will come into effect for the Police and Crime Commissioner Election on May 7, 2020.

Nigel Adams, the council’s returning officer, commented: “We want to make the voting process as accessible as possible for all, and part of this is to ensure that polling stations are conveniently located, ideally within walking distance for the majority of electors in our urban areas and with parking facilities.

“We also want to seek to ensure that all polling stations have access facilities for disabled electors, including wheelchair users - despite the challenges that some of our more traditional venues present.

"We would therefore particularly welcome comments from any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability.”
