AN INQUEST was held yesterday into the death of well-known Stroud busker Siggy.

Tributes were left in Stroud High Street when Siggy - whose real name was Simon Moore - died in May.

A flute, a handwritten poem, flowers and cards were left outside Clarks shoe shop, where he was often seen.

Tributes referred to him as Ziggy, a reference to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust character, but he was actually known as Siggy after his name Simon.

The inquest at Gloucester Coroners Court heard how his body was found in the bathroom of his girlfriend’s house in Belmont Road, Stroud on May 2.

Mr Moore, 56, who is believed to have had a flat in Ebley, had drug and alcohol problems, the court heard.

He grew up in Stroud and attended Marling School.

Assistant coroner for Gloucestershire Roland Wooderson said: "A toxicological report concluded that death was the result of a drug overdose.

"Alcohol and heroin were found and the combination can depress the central nervous system.

"Here there was a high concentration of heroin exacerbated by alcohol."

His girlfriend, in written evidence, said: “Simon got back to my flat very drunk and went out again to score some heroin.

“In the early hours of the morning I went up to the bathroom as I could hear his phone ringing and the door was locked.”

She unscrewed the door handle and when she entered the bathroom she found Mr Moore on the floor along with a needle and spoon, the inquest was told.

“This was another tragic case of a heroin overdose,” said the coroner.

Conclusion: drug-related death.
