A man cycling the length of the country in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society called into a Stroud care home to visit his sister, who suffers from the condition.

David Merrett is pedalling from Land’s End to John O’Groats along with his friend Kevin House, who is raising funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The pair took a well-earned break from their 580-mile journey to visit David's sister Serena at Scarlet House care home

Home manager at Scarlet House, Kate Stevens, said: “We were delighted to welcome David and Kevin for a well-deserved rest stop, as they scale the length of the country to raise money for a charity close to David’s heart.

“It was such a surprise for Serena, who thoroughly enjoyed seeing her brother during his epic trip in the saddle.

“It is a great achievement, and on behalf of residents and the rest of the team here at Scarlet House, we’d like to wish David and Kevin the very best of luck with their onward journey.”
