The Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr Toby Savage, has issued a statement after a man died at a planning meeting yesterday.
"Thoughts and prayers are with his man's family and loved ones at this awful time," he said.
"Thank you to @sgloscouncil staff & cllr first aiders who did everything they could before paramedics arrived."
A South Gloucestershire Council planning meeting was cancelled after a man reportedly suffered a heart attack.
The individual was believed to be a resident waiting to talk about a planning proposal at the Kingswood Civic Centre.
The meeting was a scheduled South Gloucestershire Council Planning Committee hearing in which they were due to discuss planning proposals regarding developments in Hawkesbury Upton and Severn Beach.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "South Western Ambulance Service were called on Thursday at just before midday about an incident at Kingswood Civic Centre.
"We sent various resources to the scene including land ambulance crews, specialist paramedics and an air ambulance crew."
Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to reports that a man in his 80s had died on High St, Kingswood at around 12.45pm.
"Officers are currently conducting enquiries on behalf of the coroner."
