Police are appealing for information after a bizarre incident that has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers were called in the early hours of the morning to a disturbance in Emersons Green.

A man was being detained by a member of the public after allegedly trying to break in to cars.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We’re appealing for witnesses following an incident which left a man in critical condition in hospital.

"A man is currently in intensive care in hospital following the incident in Willowherb Road, Emersons Green, in the early hours of today (Wednesday, 20 November).

"We previously issued an appeal for help to identify the man but we now believe we know who he is.

"We were called at 1.42am to a report of a man having been detained by a member of the public after allegedly trying to break into cars.

"Officers attended by 1.51am and found the man to be unresponsive. An ambulance arrived at 2.05am and the man was taken to hospital where he remains in intensive care

"A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and remains in police custody at the time of writing. Enquiries are ongoing.
