THIS Saturday Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team will be hosting an event at the Subscription Rooms on how to keep young people safe online.

The event is titled 'Keeping Young People Safe Online: An Adult's Guide.'

The guide event is aimed at adults who care for young people and look to give them the tools needed to keep children safe online.

There will be free information sessions and presentations throughout the day about cyber safety, sexting, the website School-Beat, and the effect of pornography on young people.

Speaking about the event, Stroud's Vulnerabilities Officer, Tracey Brian said: “This is a unique opportunity for parents and carers of young people to hear from and speak with professionals about any concerns they may have about young people.

"As well as sessions delivered by the police and The Eddystone Trust around online safety, there are information stands manned by many partners agencies covering issues such as Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence, Sexual Health, Hate Crime and much more.

"And if you just want to understand what those emojis mean that your youngster uses in their text messages then come along.”

Two free performances of a play about child sexual exploitation called Chelsea's Choice will also be available to view at the event.

The play is produced by the Alter-Ego Theatre Company and has been seen by hundreds of professionals as well as over 950,000 young people throughout the UK.

There will also be a chance to talk to partners and support services.

The event takes place from 9am to 4.30pm.
