IT IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Dursley – but things will really take off on Friday when the lights are officially switched on.

The switch-on countdown will take place by Dursley’s Christmas tree at 6pm, followed by fireworks.

There’s lots of fun to be had beforehand too, with stalls and late night shopping, including a Christmas Fair inside St James’ Church, starting at 4pm.

This year’s event has a winter wonderland theme, and it features children’s entertainment, with fairground rides and a Santa’s grotto.

Children can also enjoy collecting stickers to complete a trail map and have their photo taken in Santa’s Sleigh. Face painting is on offer as well.

There will be live music from The Disclaimers and Wotton Silver Band, performances from morris dancers, and magic from Tom Foolery.

Visitors will be able to take a tour of the festive window display competition, and also pop-in to Ryan’s Winter Garden, where they can meet real ‘rein-sheep’.

A wide variety of food from local cafes and stalls will be available.

Road closures will be in place on the day. Parsonage Street will be closed to vehicles from 2pm to 10pm.

The one hour Castle Street car park will also be closed from 1pm to 10pm.
