A NEW hair and beauty salon is now open for business at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

The salon, called Envy Professional, initially opened in August and they offer over 20 different treatments to their customers from professionally trained beauty and hair specialists.

“We offer a bit of everything,” said the salon manager, Laura Tinney. “We do beauty therapy, holistic, aesthetics and hairdressing, and everyone here is really enjoying it so far.”

The new salon currently has 15 members of staff and despite opening in the Summer, Laura feels the salon is now ready to thrive after recruiting their specialists.

Although they are still looking to hire, and Laura says she wants current students and ex-students to know that they have an employment opportunity with the salon after they have completed their courses.

“Some ex-students might not be able to set up their own business or need guidance with bookings and advertising,” Laura said.

“When you first qualify as a therapist or stylist, it can be daunting going out into the industry, most salons and spas require a couple of years’ experiences and we offer opportunities for those who are newly qualified.”

Jade, the salon’s receptionist, who also offers her own treatments on a Monday, said: “A lot of salons want level two or level three qualified people, but we are offering good opportunities for people who may just have their level two qualification with limited experience.”

Envy Professional is also open six days a week, including Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as a Saturday morning, with three different beauty therapists on hand.

Laura qualified herself from the college after studying beauty therapy and complementary therapy in 2013. After completing her course, she also went onto complete teaching and assessing courses and she became a lecturer working for the college.

She also brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

“I have also been managing four-star spas in Bristol, so that’s where I have primarily gained my experience over the years.”
