A song that was released to raise awareness of a campaign to help keep a Yate teenager in the UK has done very well in the UK charts, outperforming a number of top artists.

The track is called I’m A Soldier and it is written and performed by Stevie D Red to help the campaign to keep Albanian teenager Samet in the country.

It was ranked at number 4 in the Amazon Best Sellers chart on Thursday morning, and has been as high as number 2 this week.

That put the song ahead of other records released by popular artists Stormzy, Dua Lipa and Mariah Carey.

The success of the song echoes the success of an online petition that is asking the government to stop the planned deportation of Samet.

The petition gained more than 70,000 signatures in a week, taking it to more than a quarter of a million.

Samet was trafficked in to the country after escaping the clutches of a gang in his homeland. He was then adopted by respected foster father John Stokes from Yate.

However the Home Office have said that he needs to return to Albania.
