HUNDREDS of Labour supporters gathered at Forest Green Rovers stadium to hear Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn speak about Thursday’s election.

He visited the area on Monday to show his support for Stroud district's Labour candidate David Drew.

Speaking at the rally, Mr Drew said ‘more needs to be done’ in order for him to hold the marginal seat, and he urged party supporters to not stop campaigning or else he could lose Stroud.

He has held the seat since 2017, and was MP for Stroud from 1997 to 2010 before being ousted by Conservative Neil Carmichael.

Mr Corbyn was at the New Lawn to rile up support for incumbent Labour MP, who he said was a ‘good friend’ and was confident he will be re-elected this week.

Speaking at the event, Mr Corbyn said: “We are covering every single part of the UK in this election in order to win on Thursday.

“In David, as you know as well as I do, you’ve got somebody very very special as your MP and as your candidate.

“David and I have know each other for a very long time. We worked together in Parliament on many many issues about human rights and justice around the world about environmental sustainability in Britain and about an economic strategy that does something serious about ending austerity.”

Mr Drew will defend a slim majority of 687 against Conservative candidate Siobhan Baillie, Green candidate Molly Scott Cato, Brexit Party’s Desi Latimer and Libertarian Party candidate Glenville Gogerly.

Speaking to Labour supporters, Mr Drew said: “We can win big, but we can only do that with your support.

“It’s a big thank you, but a big ask.

“Please don’t stop now. I know we’re tired but there is still a lot more to do.”

For the Conservatives to gain the sit, it would need a 0.55 per cent swing.

Mr Corbyn also told the rally he is a Forest Green Rovers fan.

He made the admission as he exchanged the league two side’s green scarf with the club’s chairman Dale Vince.
