To mark National Tree Week a tree was planted in the school grounds.

Current headteacher Mark Toogood, Dorothy's son, David, and members of the staff who worked with Dorothy were present when the tree was planted last week.

Thornbury tree warden Judith Hurford said: "Dorothy proved to be an excellent headteacher. winning the hearts and minds of pupils, parents, and staff with her charismatic leadership.

"The stories about her from those who came to the planting and the several memoirs read out showed how well she was respected by those around her and of the fun she instilled into the daily life of the school.

"When she retired, she was presented with a painting of the school and, at the planting, David presented this painting back to the Infant School in her memory. It was a truly memorable occasion."
