Comedian Joel Dommett has won a five-figure sum for a Thornbury charity by playing Catchphrase.

Joel, originally from Rockhampton, won £11,200 for Brain Tumour Support.

He competed against Eastenders star Dean Gaffney and chef Rosemary Shrager in an I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here special edition of the show.

Joel finished runner-up in the jungle in 2016.

Speaking about his time on Catchphrase, broadcast on ITV on Sunday evening, Joel said: “I can’t believe how much money I won It turns out I’m good at Catchphrase!

"I was so happy to win it for such a wonderful charity that is close to mine and my family’s heart.

"The charity’s support groups and specialist counselling are a lifeline to so many patients and families and I know these funds will make a big difference to these peoples’ lives. I’m really proud to be able to support the charity.

Tina Mitchell Skinner, who founded Brain Tumour Support 16 years ago after losing he husband, is a close friend of Joel's mother.

She said: “We were over the moon when we heard that Joel had chosen Brain Tumour Support. He has such a big heart and always wants to make a difference.

"Winning this amount of money for us will allow us to do so much.

"The impact of brain tumours desperately needs more awareness and more money allocated to support the growing number of people affected, living and dying, every day.
