A MAN and a woman will appear in court today in connection with a stabbing in Chickerell on Sunday evening.

Dorset Police said a 23 year-old man and 20 year-old woman, both of no fixed abode, have been charged with multiple offences following the stabbing attack, which saw a man needing medical treatment in hospital.

The woman was arrested shortly after the incident and found to be in possession of a knife, police said, while the man was arrested some time later the same evening, following a search by the police NPAS helicopter.

Officers also went door-to-door on foot to ask whether people in the local area had seen an individual matching the description of a man they wanted to speak to.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 5.01pm on Sunday December 8 that a man had sustained a stab wound in School Close in Chickerell.

"The injured man is reported to have been stabbed by a man, who then left the scene in the company of a woman. The woman is also alleged to have assaulted a member of the public who came to the injured man’s assistance.

"Officers attended and carried out a search of the area, a 20-year-old woman of no fixed abode was located and was reported to be in possession of a knife.

"She was arrested and has since been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and affray.

"Following further searches and enquiries, a 23-year-old man of no fixed abode was located in the area and arrested. In connection with this incident he has been charged with wounding with intent, affray and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

"Both are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday December 10.

"The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life threatening."
