THE number of drug seizures by West Yorkshire Police rose by 14% in 2018/19 compared to the previous year.
The increase was comparable to national figures which saw a 13% rise overall though those figures are still well below their 2008/9 peak.
The figures of all the police forces of England and Wales were released by Home Office.
There were 6,046 seizures of A, B and C class drugs in West Yorkshire in the last financial year, up from 5,284 the previous year. The vast majority of seizures were for cannabis at 4,373, 72% of the county's total.
There were 689 seizures of cocaine, 173 of crack, 112 of ecstasy and 244 of heroin.
There were 2,606 drug seizures per million people in the county, a similar figure to North Yorkshire but 14% less than the equivalent figure for South Yorkshire which saw a 26% rise in seizures last year compared to the year before.
A total of 1kg of cocaine was found by police in West Yorkshire compared to 5kg in South Yorkshire but 57% more seizures of cannabis were made by West Yorkshire Police compared to South Yorkshire Police.
