AN ESTIMATED 2,000 people were in attendance on Tuesday at the Janazah (funeral) of a Bradford father and son, who tragically passed away last week.

Abdul Farid, 41, and son Raees Kabir-Farid, a year 9 pupil at Beckfoot School, were on a family holiday in Turkey when they were involved in a car crash.

It is understood that the collision involved the vehicle they were in and a minibus, and happened in the Serik district of Antalya.

They had been on a two-week holiday and were due to return home on Wednesday 4 December, Ace Budget Taxis on Thornton Road, the taxi firm Mr. Farid worked for, said.

Mr. Farid is believed to be from the Duckworth Terrace area originally, before later moving with his family to Shipley. Raees was described as "a great sportsman and top boy" by Bingley Juniors AFC, one of the football clubs he played for.

The Janazah took place today at the Grand Mosque on Westgate and was attended by around 2,000 people, from a wide range of different backgrounds, religious beliefs and ethnicities.

Speaking at the Janazah, Mufti Wajid Iqbal said, "From what I understand, Abdul Farid was a man who not only served his family, but also served his community at large."

"He invested his time, his effort and his strength into his child, Raees. They created such a bond in this life, which is something that every person and every one of us will wish to have. Such was their bond, that even God decided that they should spend their life together, and also their tragic demise together.

"Regardless of where we come from, which walk of life we are from or what religion we follow, one thing we can be rest assured of and one thing we can agree on, is that death will come to all of us one day. Therefore, we have to remain humble and have compassion, honour and respect for everyone in our community. This is an important duty of being Muslim, and an important duty of being a human being."

Another speaker at the Janazah said, "On behalf of Ghulam Farid, Abdul's father, thank you to the family and friends who have been here during this difficult time, and thank you to everyone at Bingley Juniors, Saltaire and Shipley, the football clubs Raees played for, and everyone at his school, Beckfoot.

"The sudden death of Abdul and his son Raees is a tragic reminder of how fragile life is. They will both be missed enormously by all of us. The whole family have been a great asset to this community. We pray to God to grant them a place in Jannah (heaven) and bestow Sabr (patience) on their family and friends."

Following these poignant words, the Salat-al Janazah (funeral prayer) commenced.

Jim Innes, a coach at Bingley Juniors AFC, was in attendance at the Janazah, alongside many of Raees' young team mates.

He said, "Today has been really moving. Both football clubs Raees played for have come together and have been fantastic in supporting each other and the players. Everyone has come together from the local community to pay their respects. There obviously aren't many positives to come out of today, but the welcome we've all had here at the Mosque has been great."

One year 10 pupil from Beckfoot School, who was also at the Janazah, said, "Raees was such a good lad and a good friend who was always there if you needed anything. We've all come to pay our respects and I hope it will all get easier."

The Telegraph & Argus has created a 'book of condolence' for Mr. Farid and Raees, where readers can leave their own personal tribute to them. Some of the contributions so far read, "I hope his mother and his sisters are okay and I honestly can't imagine the amount of grief and pain they must be feeling having lost both their father and brother" and "My thoughts go out to all the family and friends who knew both son and father."

Councillor Arshad Hussain, a close friend of the family who knew Abdul for over 30 years, said yesterday, "Abdul was an amazing man who was always full of life. Raees was an amazing lad. He was really into sports and he was a great footballer. He was very popular amongst his peers at school as well as in the wider community. It's so sad that we've lost two fabulous people.

"I want to say thank you, on behalf of the family, to the Turkish authorities and the Bradford Coroners Office, who have been really caring throughout the whole procedure."
