Firefighters were called to a field near Thornbury overnight after a fire was spotted from the M5.
A caravan was ablaze when crews arrived in the field. Forced entry had been made to the field.
Overhead power lines supplying Michaelwood services were also affected by fire and are currently being dealt with by Western Power Distribution.
As there was signs horses had been in the field and none were visible firefighters requested the attendance of the police in case any horses were loose on the road in the area and close proximity of access to the motorway.
As soon as crews left the incident two horses were found loose on the road so were herded back into their field.
