STAFF and students at a primary school are celebrating after they were given a ‘Good with outstanding features’ rating in their latest inspection by Ofsted.

Abbotswood Primary School in Yate has defied the odds to achieve the top rating from the education watchdog, with the report describing the school as an ‘exciting place to learn’.

It comes after the school was told it needed to make significant changes following an inspection in 2017.

Head of school Sarah Willoughby and executive headteacher Rob Cockle were absolutely delighted with the recent findings.

“We were thrilled with the overall judgement of ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and especially pleased with the outstanding judgement for ‘Personal Development’,” Ms Willoughby said.

“This report is a validation of the incredible hard work and professionalism of all the staff, the hard work and behaviour of our students and the support of our parents and carers.

“Through determination, hard work and consistency, we have developed a greater sense of pride and self-belief.

“We are extremely proud of the success of our Year 6 pupils over the past 2 years which has put us in the top 3% in the country for progress.

“The school will continue to improve and strive for ‘Outstanding’ in the future. We will be working on the two targets set by Ofsted, particularly our work on improving attendance.”
