The Gazette asked the candidates fighting to represent Wotton under Edge, Kingswood and North Nibley (the Cotswolds constituency) to provide a statement explaining why residents should vote for them tomorrow (Thursday).

Here is what Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown (Conservative) had to say:

It has been an honour to represent the Cotswolds for many years and I have produced positive results for this constituency as an experienced MP.

In education I have secured substantial increases in funding for schools in Gloucestershire, I have led the campaign to transform the A417, protected frontline NHS services with Alex Chalk to save the A&E in Cheltenham, ensured the roll-out of gigabit capable super fast broadband, and worked with Government to secure a £525m Defence Fire and Rescue Project which will benefit the Fire Service College, providing 100 essential local jobs.

I have supported our farmers through thick and thin, as we leave the EU this industry will be one of the most important to champion, as I have experience as one of the few farmers in Parliament.

If I am re-elected my priorities are to ensure the recruitment of many more doctors, nurses, and other frontline staff who do a fantastic job but need to be significantly increased as a workforce to cope with the unprecedented demand on the NHS.

The Conservatives will implement a three-point plan for social care, including £1 billion funding, so that no-one needing care has to sell their home to pay for it.

I have been at the forefront of obtaining increased funding for schools in Gloucestershire.

Per-pupil funding has increased significantly thanks to the latest £2.6 billion funding and I am delighted that this included a £400 million investment in higher education benefitting Cirencester College and £700m for pupils with special educational needs.

I will continue to champion our schools, working closely with teachers who understand the funding needs of our children.

We will continue to build more houses to benefit renters, with part or full ownership.

I think this is especially important for our young people.

I support the Conservative Help to Buy scheme which will be extended to 2023, with lifetime fixed rates, and new first homes will be sold at a 30 percent discount to first time buyers.

I am strongly committed to clean growth and further legislation to protect the environment.

We have cut greenhouse gasses by 23 percent and are leading the world in offshore wind.

I support the world-leading target of Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and the creation of a £500 million Blue Planet Fund to help protect our oceans from plastic, pollution, and overfishing.

I will continue to be a strong and effective champion for the Cotswolds and will provide the new Parliament with much needed experience.
