TWO members of staff are being investigated by the police following an incident at a Cam school.

They have been suspended from the Peak Academy while police establish whether any criminal offences took place.

Gloucestershire police’s investigation surrounds the response of staff to an incident involving pupils on October 21.

The Peak Academy is a specialist school which supports pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. It is part of the White Horse Federation multi-academy trust.

A spokesman for the Trust said: “Protecting the well-being and safety of children is at the heart of our trust and its schools.

“While an investigation is being undertaken, all evidence is cross-examined, so no presumptuous conclusions can be made.

“Our safeguarding policy requires individuals to be placed on temporary suspension throughout the duration of the investigation process. This is a standard operating procedure and does not indicate guilt.”

Chris Belli, regional director at the White Horse Federation said: “An incident at the Peak Academy was reported to the safeguarding team at The White Horse Federation.

“As per our procedure, we immediately initiated an investigation and, as required by our policy, two members of staff have been temporarily suspended.

“The investigation is currently ongoing. To allow the investigation to be carried out ethically and without prejudice or interference, The White Horse Federation will make no further comment on the matter.

“Once the investigation has concluded, we will issue a statement on the outcome addressed to our school community and the press.”

A spokesman for Gloucestershire police said: “Gloucestershire Police is investigating the response of two staff members to an incident involving pupils at The Peak Academy School to establish if any criminal offences took place.

“Officers are working with the local authority designated officer and The White Horse Federation and enquiries are ongoing.”
