A Yate man who stole more than £12,500 from a supermarket in Bristol has been handed a suspended sentence.

Daniel Walters, 22, of Sutherland Avenue, pleaded guilty to two offences at Bristol Magistrates Court on Monday.

Walters was charged with stealing £12,541 from the shop between March 15 and April 12 last year.

He was also charged with trespassing on Co-op supermarket, Gloucester Road, Bristol, on September 17 with intent to steal.

Magistrates sentenced Walters to 26 weeks in jail suspended for 12 months and ordered him to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

Walters was also ordered to pay £2,400 in compensation.
