I would like to bring to peoples attention that how easy it is to get hit by a car/delivery van at any time of the year most of all at Christmas time!
My car was parked on Thornbury High Street on a double yellow line outside the Garden Shop, as I had my daughter and son in the car with me.
I went to the Co-op on my own to get a few bits of shopping.
As I came out I crossed the pedestrian crossing okay.
I then was crossing on foot to Castle Court and I thought at the time it was safe to cross despite traffic wanting to come out on to the High Street.
There was a delivery van at the front wanting to come out of there onto the High Street.
He was unaware at first that I was there crossing the road, because he was on his mobile phone obviously checking to see where his next delivery of the day was.
I was therefore taken aback by his actions on this occasion and he quickly put his brakes on.
Had I not been alert enough to realize what could have happened on that occasion I could have been badly injured, but thank god I wasn't.
So I am wanting to make drivers of all vehicles aware whatever the time of year it is NOT TO USE THEIR MOBILE PHONES when in a vehicle for even a minute, as you never know that it only takes someone to be using a mobile for then there to be an accident.
In my case I was lucky. It is not acceptable by anyone to lose concentration whilst driving when using a mobile phone.
I hope by drawing peoples attention to my situation that happened on no other than General Election day, that it will save many lives in the future.
