No route or timetable has yet been determined for the bus which will eventually serve Thornbury’s Park Farm Estate.

Those living in the Parkland Way area of the town have been without a bus since September 2018, when changes were made to Stagecoach West’s 77 service.

Although the bus operator and South Gloucestershire Council are working on setting up a new service to serve both the Park Farm development and the Parkland Way area, residents have been left dismayed by the lack of progress.

Sylvia King said the lack of bus service had left the elderly and disabled isolated.

“We are living in a sea of houses with no thought given to the people and their needs,” she said.

The news comes after Stagecoach West announced their Severn Express service, from Chepstow to Bristol, would no longer serve Aust.

Olga Taylor, Pilning and Severn Beach parish councillor and chair of Pilning Station Group, said: “We have already lost our direct rail service through the Severn Tunnel to Wales, with the closure of Pilning Station’s westbound platform.

“Now this area is losing its only other public transport alternative, which will create real difficulties for those who rely on it and will put more cars onto already-congested roads.”

Rupert Cox, managing director of Stagecoach West, said: “This difficult decision is necessary in order to improve punctuality on the better used aspects of the route and to address the poor financial performance of the service.

“In response to customer feedback we have introduced a new trial service, the X14, which is focussed on providing a direct bus service to and from Cribbs Causeway.

“However, as ticket machine data indicates that fewer than one person each day uses the bus from Aust, this has not been enough to justify a daily hourly service for this route.”

In reference to Park Farm he said: “It is a long-term objective for a new bus service to reach the new Park Farm Estate, but a route and timetable has yet to be determined by South Gloucestershire Council.”

A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council said: “We are working with bus operators to find a suitable service for the Park Farm development in Thornbury and although we are not in a position to confirm an exact start date at present, work is ongoing to ensure it is served as soon as possible.”
