A WALL and bank belonging to the National Trust collapsed in Wotton under Edge last night.

A mixture of stones, earth and ivy have fallen onto Coombe Road, opposite The Cedars, as a result.

The wall borders pasture land belonging to the National Trust.

Residents say the collapse is making the road hazardous for motorists.

A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We erected safety barriers around the area where the wall collapsed last night, as soon as we became aware of the issue.

"The collapsed section is partially in the highway and is safe to pass.

"We will be contacting the landowner to request they remove the debris from the road and repair the wall and will be monitoring the situation."

The National Trust said: "We’re working with a contractor to get this repaired as soon as possible."
