A GLOUCESTERSHIRE-based health organisation working with schools across the country has published a book to help children to understand how their bodies work.

The book, 'This is Fin and Bear’, was written by health education specialist, Kelly Green, and illustrated by artist, Imogen Harvey-Lewis.

Ms Green's book is designed to help children to understand how their bodies work and how they can have control of their health.

It was published by Facts4Life, a health resilience programme for primary and secondary schools.

The Facts4Life team is based in Uley, with members of the team also living in Woodchester, Chalford and Horsley.

In the book, children can see how their hearts pump, their lungs breathe and how their brains are making sense of the world around them through the character Fin.

A spokesperson for Facts4Life, said: "The character Bear is also on hand to lend support to Fin at every turn, through the good times as well as through times of illness or sadness.

"Managing our ups and downs is a key theme and there are prompts along the way to help parents and carers encourage conversations about Fin’s experience."

Author Kelly Green brings her experience of being both a parent and former primary school teacher to her story telling.

She is mother to two primary age children and a member of the Facts4Life team.

Facts4Life was founded by local GP, Dr Hugh van Hoff, and his team have been leading the way in challenging current ideas about health in Gloucestershire.

Primarily, the organisation explores taking ownership of health, exploring illness, and developing strategies for wellbeing.
