A resident in Yate has called for quick action in a troublesome Yate subway after they found dozens of Nitrous Oxide canisters.

The subway next to Yate Shopping Centre has been the topic of much conversation in the area, with the Gazette reporting on numerous updates over the last six months.

South Gloucestershire Council started an online consultation late last year, encouraging residents to have their say on the underpass.

The overwhelming response was that local people want it closed off.

This was also supported by Avon and Somerset Police who reported there had been a huge increase in incidents near the subway over the last year.

Now a resident has claimed they have cleared dozens of canisters from the area, whilst also stating their concern that young people are using them for the wrong reasons.

"I walk near the underpass quite often and thought that I would go and see what people are concerned about," said the resident who wished to remain anonymous.

"I was absolutely disgusted by what I saw.

"I am aware that the council do regularly visit the underpass and clear away rubbish but this had obviously happened the night before.

"The consultation has said that residents want it closed so hopefully now that can happen at some point in the future."
