A Runcorn comedy show is celebrating after scooping a prestigious title at a respected awards ceremony.

The Giggle Shack picked up Best Independent Comedy Club 2019 at the North West Comedy Awards, held at the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club in Manchester on February 6.

Owner Colin Havey fought off stiff opposition to claim the prize, including Manfords Comdey Club, which is owned by one of Colin's heroes, Jason Manford.

The Giggle Shack was established in November 2017, when Runcorn comedian Havey decided it was about time top comedy was brought to the local community. The night quickly established itself as one of the most popular comedy clubs on the circuit.

Havey said: "I was really happy just to have been nominated and when they called my name out as the winner at the awards night, I had to pinch myself. The North West Comedy scene is renowned as being the best in the country, so for The Giggle Shack to be named as The Best Independent Comedy Club in the North West is a real honour.

"The votes were cast by comedians, so it was lovely to know that the acts appreciate the hard work that I put in to making the nights a success"

After initially starting out with just one night at Helsby Sports Club, the night became so popular that Colin was approached by a number of Runcorn venues and there is now a monthly night at Society Ltd, a brand new regular night at the Holiday Inn on March 27 and on May 7, Liverpool's Paul Smith is returning to headline The Giggle Shack XL - a huge annual event at The Brindley Theatre.

The night has built up a great reputation among comedians with some amazing acts booked in for 2020. There's several acts from Live At Apollo lined up and the hilarious Barbara Nice, who starred in last years Britain's Got Talent, is headlining Giggle Shack's 3rd Birthday Gig at Helsby Sports Club in November.
