A ROCKHAMPTON musician's homecoming gig has raised more than £2,000 for charity.

Kevin Hackett and his band Roxy Magic, a tribute to Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, performed at a sold-out Armstrong Hall back in November.

The money from ticket sales has now been tallied up and £2,160 has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kevin first started playing in bands in the 1970s, when fans started to comment on his resemblance to Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry.

“It was a bit of a curse back then, and I eventually decided to try something completely different and joined the Army.”

It was after 22 years of service, including in the Falklands and Gulf Wars, that Kevin got back into music.

Kevin says his second career has helped with the PTSD he experiences as a result of his time in the armed forces.

He said: “It’s been a great distraction for me, especially as onstage I’m acting out the part of another person."

Speaking about the charity gig he added: "There is always room to help others in your life who are suffering despite your own demons; and Macmillan are helping so many cope with such a debilitating disease”

Kevin also wanted to thank the businesses who donated raffle prizes and sold tickets, and the staff at the Armstrong Hall .
